Back in the day I did enjoy quite a bit of thrash. Bands the I listened to included of course Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax. I also liked Sepultura, Testament, Sacred Reich and Exodus among others. But my thrash days don't show up in my playing.
I love all those bands. Those were some great times back then when all of that stuff was being released. At least they were for me!

Ok, I'll play.

I play things from most of my favorite bands. This starts with Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Rush, Trower, Hendrix, Yes, Rush and Mahogany Rush to Boston, Kansas, Ozzie, Scorpions, all kinds of 80s metal and prog. Megadeth, etc.

The things that influenced my playing most of the above: Rush, Mahogany Rush and Van Halen, Ozzie and Hendrix and Trower.
All great stuff. I can remember like it was yesterday when Moving Pictures, Holy Diver, the VH and Ozzy records dropped. They all were magical.

Truth is, while I play metal, prog and blues, if I had to choose one that was the main one, it would be "hard rock" which is not in the poll. Van Halen and Ozzie type stuff would be #1. But I've put up one sample of my playing before, so I guess anyone who listened knew I wasn't a John Denver wannabe. :p
Ladies Ladies Ladies...come on! The poll only allows 10 options. I listed Rock. I couldn't list rock, hard rock, soft rock, classic rock, punk rock, AOR, soft rock, glam rock, southern rock, etc. Tough crowd! ;)

I grow "bonsai" trees as a hobby; em, not professionally you understand. But there is a recognized form/style called "literati" which is essentially style of no style. A form that I am literally a master of, not unlike my playing skills haha. So I would certainly consider "noodling" a category based on my arborist and playing skills.
No style is still style baby!!!

Other - I didn’t see Butcher listed :p

Mostly rock and some Hawaiian slack key, but haven’t played much the past 4 years due to life issues.

Hopefully you can start playing more!

Yeah, I get it. So I voted "rock."

I was going to choose "Forum Virtuoso" but as I mentioned, I put up a clip before, so now I couldn't fool anyone into believing that.

I knew I would forget some musical style or a few. :) What you talk of is cool to me as well. I am a thrash metal guy to the core but I love so many other things as well.
You've always struck me as a very open-minded person, so I'm not surprised your musical tastes extend to other areas.

Les is our resident polk man here
When I was 8 I learned to play the accordion. I played piano from 4. The accordion was a lot of fun. Perfect if you were into Polkas or Argentine tangos.

I wasn't all that into it, and went back to piano. But...somehow I still like accordions! I even used one on an ad track. Once.

Sue me!

(Wait, don't sue me, it's expensive to litigate.)

I will say this for accordions: the left hand buttons on a piano accordion (that is, one with a piano style keyboard on the right hand instead of buttons on both hands) are arranged in this order:

Major 3rd, Root, Major Chord, Minor Chord, Dominant 7th, Diminished 7th.

So to play one, you had to inhale a little music theory in every key in order to play the left hand. I knew more theory at 8 than most guitar players ever will. It's helped me play and compose both on keys and guitar.

Who knew? Playing the accordion was the best thing I ever did as a little kid.

"What about learning to read?"

"Read music or words?"

"How about math?"

"Math is why I went to law school instead of med school. Lawyers are potential medical students who aren't great at math. It's all about the physics courses med students are required to take."

"You no like physics?"

"I love the idea of physics, I just don't know a freaking thing about how to DO physics. Maybe that's why I love physics."

I gotta say, I did not vote because I could not vote for multiple styles! That said, I am most aligned with what @JasonE said in his response, take what has inspired me (which is across many genres) and do my best with it!! Here is the list of the songs I am currently doing and/or learning. It's only 246 so don't stop scrolling too quickly - about 70 under my belt, another 70 almost there and the other 100 or so trying to get it right or have not yet started - I guess it is mostly classic rock, country and bluesy, but mostly I am looking for something that works the mind or is just plain fun:

Carry on as you were!!!
With the powers vested in me by the state of Internet forum anonymity, I hereby officially christen thee with thy new official forum name: “Jukebox Wily!”

And how would you describe that?
I never had lessons, never concerned myself with scales, have no desire to become a shredder. Just a hobby. I bought my first guitar forty-two years ago out of a JC Penney catalog and when I got it, just plugged it in and figured some things out. From then, I've always recorded my sessions and revisited things I laid down. Over the years I've added alot more guitars and a bunch of gear, but just for my own entertainment. Some have Floyd Rose setups on them and it's easier to have different guitars tuned different ways to grab instead of fighting those at times to tune and retune.

My pedals are basically for "what kind of noise can I make today", except for the one to keep noise out :). So, I just make 'my' noise hence why I responded that way. I'm terrible, nobody, but it's mine.
