When I'm not playing guitar, or being paid to do a gig in whatever style the client insists on, I spend most of my studio time in orchestral music. I guess you might call that Classical, though the term really refers more to an era than to describe music made with orchestra instruments, and I lean toward more modern influences.
Oh, sure, for me 'modern' is like up to the 1940s or so...
But when I'm playing guitar, I most like to record textural electronica, because I'm into that, too. It wasn't a choice, so I put 'other'.
It's interesting to see what everyone's into.
However, I can't imagine any metal players taking my tone suggestions seriously!
Not that I dislike metal, I do it when I'm paid to go there, and I'll sketch out an idea for someone I hire to play. It's not my thing and I profess no expertise whatsoever. For other styles, I can offer useful suggestions from time to time.
But yes, metal players, you should NEVER take my tone advice!!!
"Actually, Les,
no one takes your tone advice. Ever. People are into their own things."
"Seriously? But I know my sh!t."
"Sh!t is an appropriate word to describe how people feel about your tone preferences."
"Hmmm. Good to know!"
