Sorry if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything in a quick search.

I'm just curious if there is any official meaning for the 'Dirty' designation given to the Paul's guitars tops . I thought I recalled that they were a flawed artist top. Is that correct?

I think Jamie's definition is as good as any.
More generally, using Dirty 100s as a guide, I think there is just something that makes the top less than perfect as a tidy flame.
This isn't a great photo and the guitar and I are in different countries, so it is the best I can do - look down by the tone control - not perfect right, but the guitar still looks good. The best view is while playing - the top of the lower horn looks like old leather - that well aged bomber jacket - every time I see it, I'm amazed that wood can look like that.

I like mineral streaks on maple tops. Usually they look cooler on the more earthy toned colors.
