Thank you all. Forgot this thread. Did re-string it with 10 - 46. Of course had to adjust the spring tension, strobed it and fine tweaked the intonation & action, but all in all, not a big deal. Thank you all for the replies.
My irratiional aversion to do something I've done all my life is unfounded after some thought. But it does play great with either way. If it was the only one I played or mostly played, I'd leave the stock setup/strings.
Now if I can find a Private Stock McCarty, my tiny collection will be set for awhile.
