What happens to your PRS's after you're gone?

This may be a morbid topic but as we get older you have to think in these terms. What will happen to your prized and cherished PRS guitars after you have passed on from this life?

I have a few and my wife knows the value of them and how to liquidate them if I was not around. Neither she or my daughter play so unless they keep one for sentimental reasons I would hope they are able to move them on and get the value from them.

I loved the movie The Red Violin about the history of a famous violin and all the people that played it and its life. It would be fun to be able see what happens with my guitars generations from now.

What do you envision happening to yours after your gone, and have you made arrangements for them?

Similar to you, I have them documented for my wife if something happens to me.

I'm hoping my nephew will pick up the guitar as he gets older so he can have them.

I was stupid enough to rid myself of many great guitars in my youth (PRS, Gibson, Martin) so I am starting early with my son (6) on taking good care of his guitar, it's artistic and monetary value, etc. I' 'll do the same with my daughter when she's older.

Hopefully they will respect me, and the guitars enough to refer to the database I have created logging every detail for all the guitars I have - including price paid and replacement value.

Hopefully that will be enough of a foundation that they won't get sold off for beer money

I'm asking that the one with most sentimental value be kept in the family and given to my step-son(he plays bass). I will ask that one be donated to somewhere/someone who can't afford a nice guitar(haven't figured out the details on that yet). The others will be listed and can be sold or whatever she wants to do with them.

No, really, I plan to have a pompous tomb, in recording studio style, where I'll be surrounded by my gear. Like the ancient guitar heroes.

My 9 year old nephew lives with me and has picked up guitar over the past 6 months and loves it. Was using an older one of mine until I bought him a smaller scale one for Christmas. He will be getting all of my gear if anything happens to me.

I'm old enough that those thoughts have crossed my mind. I have a son who plays almost as much as I do. He already gets my hand-me-downs. Eventually it will all be his.

I hope my guitars find a good home but I think I would like one in the box with me. Just in case I need it in the next world. I heard a story a while back that EVH put his black and yellow in the coffin with Dimebag. Not sure if its true or not but it makes perfect sense to me. I play these guitars every single second I can. I estimate I have had a PRS in my hands for at least 2 hours a night for the past 3 years. God knows how many hours I've spent playing before that. I would guess I play more than anything else except maybe my job. I even have a guitar in my office so that time would have to factored.

Hopefully none of us will have to worry about this for a long time!

I have an agreement with my buddy Steve. If I die first, He is to sell all my Guitars for my wife. In return, He gets his choice of one of my Guitars. The agreement is reciprocal. Steve is a few years older than I am, but I am hoping he lives to be 100 & has to sell all my sh*t.

I have no intentions of leaving my gear for my kids/grandkids to fight over, as that always turns into a fugg'in nightmare!

I wanted an R9 and I bought one from my yougest Daughters Birth year, that's hers someday. One will go to my older daughter to do with what she wants. My Bass and one of the "nice" guitars and the rest of the gear will go to my step SON. He plays and has recorded and been in a signed band as a Vocialist. I know he will use it....

"Serenity" (PS #3340) goes to my son Jeremy.
"Darlene" (HML #20) goes to my daugter Kimberly

As of now, these are the only two I've created from scratch. As soon as I get the go-ahead (Shawn..are you reading this) my last Private stock (to end all Private Stocks) will be commissioned. I am just waiting for formal permission to go ahead with the specs I have determined to be used for this one. I'll leave that one to Ginger, knowing that she will immediately put it on Ebay for sale. So..read the obits, you guys...gonna be a hell of a fire sale when that happens.

The goal is to not have any more left by the time I am ready to pass these on. Currently selling about 9 from my private collection (on VR and TGP) and am refining my "wants" to be much more selective as I move to a more selective niche of guitar collecting. I want to thin out the herd, as I am tired of "rediscorvering the sweet spots" each time I rotate through the collection...or adjusting to a different neck carve, pickup tone...etc, etc.

This is absolutely true. The black and yellow striped model resides with Dimebag in his final resting place. Apparantly EVH knew how badly Darrell coveted it while he was alive.
