Photos, let's see 'em

Just got back from a trip out west. Among other sites, got great views of the Teton Range.

From the west in Idaho...

And from the east in Wyoming...

Beautiful. Looks like where they filmed "Shane"

Today was a hot moody summer's day (though less hot than yesterday, which hit at least 106F). I've had a filthy horse in my garage and finally dealt with that. By the bye, If you want to keep a car looking nice, I can strongly recommend not actually driving the thing! I had a lot more chips and dings than I have ever noticed before.

I have one of those, only yellow and topless.

Nice!! They're not perfect cars, but they're pretty great! Kudos for owning one that's an actual color!*

(*) Black, white, blue, gray, red, and silver are not colors when they appear on an automobile. They are signifiers of conformity.

Isn't that the new warning sign for semis with brake failures?

I have to think a prankster flipped that sign 90 degrees, but I'm not going to fling accusations!

Not sure on the brake failure, the sign is on the uphill approach, and the hill is only .4 miles, never seen a truck on the road. Rare to see cars too. We don't have snow or ice here, so they just build the roads strait up steep hills.

Hot, dry, and windy time here.

Thunderstorm Friday night brought lightning and the fire on the mountains has been happening ever since.

This video shows the damage from the Big Horn fire. Between the Aspen fire of 2003 (cigarette butt) and the Big Horn fire (lightning) most of the mountain area has burned.

Hey, it works: https://firelibrary.org/timeline/2020-AZCNF-000413/

Looks like the Aspen footprint burned it once [https://firelibrary.org/progression/2003/Aspen/] and Bighorn hit the whole west side again [https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/photos/AZCNF/2020-06-07-2128-Bighorn/picts/2020_07_10-11.07.51.101-CDT.jpeg].

good links!

When we moved here the top of the mountain had all of these beautiful old pines everywhere. It was a real shame that in 2003 some stupid kid ignored the "no fires, no smoking" ban at the time and flicked his cigarette when he was finished with it and burned those trees down.
