SE Mods

New Turquoise inlay speed knobs for the new Turquoise CE24 SE
ZlT0kpi.jpg

Added Mann-converted locking tuners, nickle/silver pickup covers, changed the 3-way pickup selector switch, added mini toggles for coil splitting.

I just bought an SE Custom 24 and dropped it off to have my usual alterations done to it and was wondering what everyone else was having done. I really didn't expect 93 pages of content. Fantastic!
Here's my list:
Install Locking Tuners
A Duncan JB installed in the bridge position
Both pickups rigid mounted to the body with brass ferrels(huge increase in output)
Remove the tone knob wiring from circuit
Install graphite saddles
Install trem block stopper

I just stumbled upon this cool thread and I can't believe it stopped after 12 years 😯. I thought it is worth trying to revive it with some mods that have not been shown so far (disclaimer - I am guilty not having already read all 1,845 post in detail).

- No-name mini toggle switches for selecting Rail/HB/P90
- Goeldo pickup rings

Let me happily join in. Relatively simple but consequential mods - Gibson Custombuckers and lampshades.

I see pickups as nothing but devices to make copies and records of string movement. In some cases like a singecoil, they do add their own quirky colloquialisms as a language translator would but for the most part the purpose remains the same.

Catch is, when string movement is inherently toneful and subsequently paired with a faithful copy maker, the results are magic. Conversely applying good pickups on an inherently mediocre guitar does nothing but amplify the same mediocrity and flaws.

So here it is. Why two SE 594? Cos they’re inherently just too good!

I would only need the left one - colorwise

Still in love with wraparound bridges.

Nice! I have a 2003 EG in metallic Blue w/trem and aftermarket Pups that is about to get some proper upgrades, & ive been thinking HSH or maybe something like this HSS & I just bought another pristine 2004 Red Hardtail SSS 100% original and beautifully preserved. It should arrive next Tuesday.

I've shown this Korean SE245 before but it's one of my favorites and probably the best value: cheap & almost new from GC. They sometimes don't know the value of what they have.

Only moderate mods on this guy: TRC to match the body and new pickups: Wolfetone Mean in the neck and a snarly vintage Gibson in the bridge that are hum cancelling (RPRW) in the middle position. The Gibson cover was black with a code that dates it to the 70's plus or minus a decade, and I didn't want to trash that so all the plastic got changed from cream to black and also looks way better.
