No. That is a common myth. Paul has repeatedly said that SE does not stand for 'student edition.'

What it DOES stand for is a mystery.

I almost wonder whether "SE" was originally going to mean "Signature Electric" (for Santana, Tremonti), but with the advent of non-signature SE models the name was never fully actualized.
