Elsewhere, I have found the Ignore function works wonders for keeping my enjoyment level high. I haven't used it here (close, but not yet).

Hats off to you all for the good, un-internet way of being. Yes, Alan. There really is a San... I mean, this place is special.

Very well said,this happens at car show's all the time (and insert any event) and yup I even find myself going why did that guy/gal do that I wouldn't have! Exactly thank god there's not anymore me's around it's all subjective and we are all supposed to be brothers but personal space/opinions can be strong. But I think even on a board that has such a diverse following candor can be ok. In the end for me at least we only can change ourselves not anyone around us though dam do I try sometimes LOL.
 
Funny... I just popped in here to say "Thanks, this is one of the calm and friendly forums on the Net ... I appreciate that in a difficult time" and here's this thread.

My first internet guitar forum was the late-1990s Harmony-Central Guitar Forum. (Anyone here left over from that era? With the HyperNews format?)

I made some lifelong friends there in both real space and in net space, and I'm still close to them over 20 years later. Learned an awful lot about gear, too, and about writing humor for internet audiences.

We were all navigating the new world of an online forum back then, and I also got to see some ugly, ugly stuff. (Does the name Carl Fiadino ring a bell?) Flame wars and nonstop arguments. I probably fed a few of those before I realized that no one ever changed another person's mind behind a keyboard, but you could sure lose your own mind.

So, welcome: to the beginners, the hacks, the pros, the cons, the deluded, the champs, the chumps and the charming. We're all a bit of each, I'd guess.

We are, indeed, all in this together - and we all hang out here in a forum for the central harmony of the guitar.

Yes, we are all in this together. My memory is still good enough to remember all the kindness other musicians have shown me in real life and online. My current lady is so kind I’m in awe, and I want to be like her. But if you cross the line, there’s no turning back. For me, the line is trolls who have nothing to do other than whine, opine, and criticize. And humor is absolutely necessary. That’s why I appreciate various forum members, even if they don’t like blue guitars.

This was the part of the article that really jumped out at me big time.

I have to say, I don't think I've ever seen anyone respond that way to someone here. I'm not saying it's never happened, just that I don't think I've ever seen it myself. In fact, the majority of times it's been just the opposite - we've encouraged people to try more than they may think they're capable of. We have a forum where members can post their own playing - I don't think I've ever seen a derogatory response there. Compare that to the average YouTube post - it's a wonder anyone posts their playing there.

Personally, I think this is largely due to the pioneers on this board, who set the tone early for the vision of what this place should be, and it seems that goal has largely been achieved. Well done, forum brothers and sisters!

I'm new to the forums and have definitely appreciated the kindness shown here. As a new player and a female one at that, I haven't been met with sexist remarks and told to give up, like many others places on the internet. Youtube is the worst for not only sexism but for people stating their opinions as matter of fact, mainly to **** on others who may just be starting out. And honestly, a lot musicians play for themselves because they enjoy it and not for others.

If I had a glass of wine I would raise it to this forum! Thanks for being awesome! :)
