Santana Strap Buttons

What goes between the guitar and the strap buttons on a Santana? Specifically an ‘03 Santana III. A previous owner had installed the Dimarzio strap locks with the little dangly straplets. I never gelled with those, so I got a set of schallers and some PRS buttons. The schallers have huge spikes for screwing into the guitar, and the Dimarzios were put in with the same PRS button screws, so I’ll stick with the buttons.

Anyway, there were some thin nylon washers between the Dimarzio straplets and the guitar, so I’m reusing those for now. What is in there as “original equipment?”

Really! That’s how my S2 Studio is. The button on the upper cutaway is flush with the wood though. The button bottom on the neck side upper cutout on the Santana is significantly larger than the radiuses “point” on the upper cutout, so it sticks out past the wood maybe .040” on each side, maybe a bit more. I thought maybe a shaped washer/spacer/thingie might go there.

I added them to all of my guitars... PRS included...

Then, when I switched to Schaller Strap Locks, I kept using the felt washers. Stew-Mac sells them cheap...
