Please tell me more about the Santana III Pickups

Hi everyone,

I´ve found reasonably priced Santana III Pickups. They seem to be not very common/popular within the PRS-Humbucker Family. Is there a particular reason for that? I´ve heard/read, that the treble Santana III Pickup sounds almost the same like the Dragon II treble Pickup but slightly fatter than him? Can someone confirm this? Furthermore I would like to know, if the treble pup can be used for more aggressive/distorted sounds as well (but not this extremely downtuned and excessive stuff). Thanks for any replies.

Hello! I have those pickups and I love them.

I play in a cover band and we play a lot of 80s rock. I get great pinch harmonics and a nice beefy sound. They sound great playing Metallica, AC/DC, Billy Idol and all the songs of that era. I like to use a lot of gain and they sound so nice.

I’ve never played the dragons so I can’t compare them.

You’re welcome.

I’m also really picky about neck pickups. This one gets that womanly moan without getting too muddy.
