For those of you that have both of these instruments, how do the split coil sounds compare? Do you find a major difference in the characteristics of the sounds, especially when blended with a humbucker (I suppose the McCarty gives you more options from a switching standpoint unless you go with the 24-08).

I found them very different. On the Customs with the blade, they split to the slug coil with no resistor, whereas the 594 splits to screw coil with resistor. Putting aside all the other differences between models, this makes the two split combos on the Custom a lower in output, thinner, and on the 24 a little quackier.

I modified my Custom 22 to mimic the switching positions of the 594.

On a McCarty 594 vs. regular McCarty, they are much more similar except on the regular McCarty you don't get to mix a single with a humbucker.
