History of PRS Hollowbodys?

Based on the cost of a new hollow body, that isn't all that bad. I am sure they would come down a little to make the sale too. I bought my newest HB in 2012. Back then it was around 4k.
I know. I must be stuck in the pre-Covid prices. I seem to recall them being in the $2k range then. Actually, there's one on the Verb now for $2,499.

That is Canadian dollars. Pay with US dollars and it will be about 35% less. :)

Yep, I have a HBII and a SC HBII. I believe there was a SC in the HB before the II.
I believe there were 3 SC options.

All mahogany, HB I, and HBII

I'm pretty sure there was also the 25th anniversary SCHB CB that had a center block down the middle of the guitar inside.

Those days are making their way back.. maybe not as consistently but headed back in the ballpark slowly.

@Jo- some pictures would be great :)
Oooh hollowbody porn? I can post a couple!!

Or a McCarty 594 HBII with IRW neck (after these last few months of playing this, I have realised I miss having a piezo and my preference is for the HB piezo models)

I'll stop here.. I still have a few more HB's but don't want to hog the f-hole porn. Or.. do you want to see some more from me :D

Thanks Not Dave.

Thanks GM. Was the Paul Jackson an Archtop or Archtop IV? All these PRS combinations sure do get corn-fusing for a new lad! :D
The JA-15 is it's own body shape. It's larger than the standard PRS body. It's also thicker than your standard HBII but not as thick as the Archtops. (no piezo :( )

In this pick top is HBII, middle JA-15 and bottom AT IV

Hope this helps!

Here's the second HBII I ever bought, it replaced an emerald green HBI with no piezo.... I have had this guitar now for over 20 years.. was modded to add a coil tap on the bridge pickup with an extra mini switch drilled in.

2003 HBII in Blue Matteo

Yes... I do have a problem with PRS with f-holes and I own way more than I should, but I just can't let any go. I love them all.

What do you have against the semis? I’m in the market just looking for opinions.
I've had a couple of the semis, a 2010 CU22 Semi, and the current model Special SH. They're great guitars,

Since you ask...

They have their own vibe compared to a solid body or full hollowbody, and they're also different from a Gibson 335 which is also semi hollow, even though it has the look of a fully hollow guitar.

There's a little less bass and 'oomph' than a solid body, but the upper-midrange has more resonance. I think that's what makes the guitar sound different from the fully solid models. The highs are comparable, but the guitars sound brighter because there's less bass and lower-midrange.

A 335, because of its plywood construction, with much larger cavities on both sides of the neck, is something altogether different, and to me, closer to a hollowbody in tone than the Special SH.

For some players, they're an ideal compromise between a fully hollow electric and a solid body. For others, they're neither hither nor yon.

I liked the two I had. You might wonder why I sold them: One, I sold to help fund a private stock model. With the more recent one, I simply had the hots for a DGT; I plan to get another one, because I do miss it.

If you're more of a solid body aficionado, get the 594 you mentioned you were interested in. If you want a fully hollow tone, go that way. If you want something that has the spice of a little of both, the Special's a great choice.

I've been keeping my eyes open and have yet to find a core HB of any kind for less then $3k... if you ever see something cheaper please lmk! lol
Here are a few......

Sometimes price depends how desperate or eager the seller is. Or the market, or the phase of the moon. That last one is in NC and I'll be damned if I'm gonna travel all the way from Vancouver to NC, specially in winter. And this cold weather isn't a good time to ship guitars if it has a nitro finish.

During covid they shot up like many guitars when new stock was depleting. It sucked because it happend to be one of the guitars I was on the hunt for at the time. They've been dropping steadily lately like so many others.
