Guitar with McCarty pickups and wiring - change switch to blend pot?

I am building a guitar in which I am using old school (3-wire, white, black and shield) McCarty humbuckers and the standard McCarty wiring with volume, push/pull tone and 3-way selector. I have been thinking about swapping the 3-way switch for a blend pot to get a greater mix of sounds from the two pickups. Is there any reason why this would be a bad idea (e.g. reduced output, impact to tone, won't play nice with coil tapping, etc)? Has anyone out there experimented with this and discovered anything noteworthy?

I am just getting back into guitar playing after years of hiatus and, while I know my way around circuit diagrams, engineering physics and a soldering iron, I am a total noob when it comes to the lore and tribal knowledge around electric guitar wiring configurations. Thanks for any insight!
