Do you name your guitars?

There are a couple of other threads here on the forum on the topic if you are interested (one with the exact same title):

That said, here is my sitchy (copy and pasted from the other threads with updates):

I do name at least some of my gits and others (mostly the ones I have owned for 30 years) do not have names, and I am starting to feel like they deserve names, but will not be forcing it.

My McCarty 594 HBII is Hoorman Gitfiddle because I love the term gitfiddle. This is about as close as a modern guitar can be to the definition of a gitfiddle and the individual who turned me on to that term gitfiddle is named Hoorman (one of the best bass players I have ever personally known) hence the name.

My core CU24 is Birtha Luna Bluvi! She was "born" (Birtha = birthed on) on the Wolf Moon (hence Luna) of Jan 28, 2021 and the Bluvi comes from the Blue Violet Burst finish.

PRS_BirthaLunaBluvi_Born_2021Jan28.jpg

My PS CU24 was also born on Jan 28, 2021 (Birtha's twin brother - both CU24's and both born on Jan 28, 2021) and is named Wolfy MooNAMM. Wolfy comes from it being "born" on the Wolf Moon of 2021 and the NAMM merged with the word moon is because it was a model that was built by PRS for the 2021 Winter NAMM!

PRS_WolfyMooNAMM_Born_2021Jan28.jpg

My EBMM Stingray is named Pele because it has a Lava Pearl paint job and Pele is the Hawaiian Goddess of the Volcanoes!

My Martin J-40 I affectionately refer to as J Fo (like J-Lo but fo for 40)!

My Hwy 1 Strat (owned since 2006), Eko Kadett (owned since 1992 - I think it named itself though with brand and model), Martin D12-20 (which I have owned since 1991), my Steinberger XM2T (which I have owned since 1990), my "beach" guitar (acoustic from mfr Carlos in South Korea) and my Kelii Koa Ukulele do not yet have names. I have wanted to name them, but it has just never come to me and like my music, I refuse to force it!

My two Harley's are Road Warrior (2000 Heritage Springer - have ridden it through rain, sleet, snow, hail, mud, etc.) and Primadonna (100th Anniversary Screamin' Eagle Deuce). The 1960 Cadillac I owned for 10 years was Maxwell Catillac. Other rides never earned their names! My pet pig (who passed away 5 years ago ) was Pablo "Cruise" Pigasso!!! Named a cat Mickey once because Mick Ronson was on my radio on the way home from the humane society! Same scenario with a friend who adopted a female dog (I think they are called bitches), on the way home from picking her up, we were trying to figure out what to name her. On the radio came The Doors singing "Gloria"! I looked at my friend and said "That's her name". She was like "What's her name?". "Gloria" I said! She laughed and said "yes, you are right" (but it wasn't me, it was Jimbo who named that dog, I just pointed it out). Great dog she was! Current cats are Lyle (Lovett) and Reba (Macintyre) but those names were given by the humane society and we adopted them as a pair. The names seemed to fit so we let them sit! But I digress!

Some people think it is stupid, I find it to be amusing and entertaining to name lot's of stuff, but as mentioned above, I don't force names on things and many items that have been with me for decades of my life, that I love dearly, still don't have names! That's my 17 cents!

Nope.

Didn't name my kids, either. I figure I like the guitars more than the kids, and if I'm not going to put forth the effort for the guitars, why do it for them? My wife, Her, didn't agree, but I don't really listen to her.
That's some funny sh*t right there, especially when you noted your wife's name. Good thing I wasn't drinking anything, it'd have been all over the walls. :D

I don't name my guitars.

I just wanted to mention that Wolfy is absolutely stunning. And the owner of another really well-matched top.

Damn, Dog, them are some mighty purdy geetars you got there. I see by the names you've given your possessions that your creativity never really shuts off, does it?

I've never named any guitar, car, or other possession. The only reason my much-loved Thinline is called Cherry Bomb is because of you and another forum member. It does fit her to a "T" ... she's a rockin' rollin' smokin' red hot piece of ordnance.

Glad that name stuck on your git! As for shutting off the creativity, believe me, I sometimes wish I could ;~)) Love the phrase "rockin' rollin' smokin' red hot piece of ordnance"!! I might have to write a song about musical ordnance!!! See there, the creativity monster rearing it's head again ;~)) If I do write it, I will dedicate that song to Cherry Bomb Tom O'Vich (your new nickname in my head)!

Yes, but the names aren’t very imaginative.

First was Lady Gibson. ‘69 Gibson ES 125 (no longer with me)

Next, Ms. Black. Guess what color she was. Hartke XK4 bass (no longer with me)

Then Ms. Green. Yup. She is green. Guild Pilot Pro 5 fretless bass

Next is Whitie. I really never thought to name him until just now. Modified Mikro bass 4. White.

Then Kenny. One of the Smith brothers. Ken Smith Black Tiger 5 bass.

Lastly, Paulie. The other Smith brother. Modified PRS SE Custom 24.

The black one, the Santana and the Yamaha. The black one is funny to me, because back in the day, there were a bunch of us restaurant folks that were avid cyclists. We called ourselves the “Bill on Thursdays Club” because that was the day we got together for our 100 mile +/- rides. We all hung out at the bike shop, and we were all bike nerds. When one of the guys went to the shop to get a new bike, the owner asked him what he wanted, expecting to hear a customized something or other. The guy looks at him, and says “a black one.” Anyway, I suspect you had to be there.

I gave my McCarty Singlecut the nom de plume 'The Hammer Of The Gods', but only for this forum - just as a fun thing, here at Studio Craptastic it's just 'The McCarty Singlecut'.

Nonetheless, after 32 years of working by myself as a composer in a studio in a basement, I've gone mad as a hatter. This is probably not news to you.

So what if I sometimes talk to my gear? Yes, of course I know the gear is inanimate; I do it anyway. I converse with it telepathically.

Oh, I'm not a believer in telephathy. But there's really not much point in having a discussion with the gear out loud, is there? The gear can't hear me. Might as well converse with it telepathically.

This is called anthropomorphism. It's also called "Laz is a little off-kilter isn't he?"

Even though the gear doesn't have feelings, I like to think the gear has feelings. I like to think if I'm nice to the gear, the gear will be nice to me.

So there are times I'll walk into the studio, turn on the lights and think something like, "Morning everyone, it's time to play!" I might think to the guitars I'm not playing that day, "Don't worry, I'll be back for you soon enough."

It doesn't matter if all this telepathy I engage in can't possibly work. I guess I think of this nonsense the way I think about talent:

I like to think I have some.

Doesn't matter if I do or not as long as the work product makes other people think it.

And therein lies the mystery of how I compose. I think I'm a composer, I act like a composer, I work like a composer, I write music like a composer. So I'm a composer. Talent doesn't really play a role, it's just a placeholder substitute for all the hard work one does.

While you are indeed mad as a hatter, I find nothing out of the ordinary with the above. I’m a confirmed introvert. I find the idea of a basement studio filled with inanimate objects with which to converse telepathically, absolutely blissful.

I name some of them. Usually after people or things that inspire me. For example I have a Breedlove Oregon series Myrtlewood acoustic that is "RC" after my father. When I was younger we went to Oregon and visited the Myrtlewood forest. All I got was a tie-tack.

Nope. I have never named any of them. I honestly don't really understand why people do that. I know guys that name their motorcycles too. I have never done that either.

Me neither - never seen the point.

Mind you, I had pets when I was young, and some of them never got names either. Then there were the odd one or two whose names were just shortened versions of their genus or species e.g. Merry the gerbil and Rob the Hamster.......
