Weird ringing on D string

Hi, I'm Sebastian. Recently I purchased an used S2 custom 24 and I love the way it plays but I'm having a problem with it.

The D string rings like crazy when I palm mute, only that string, the others sound fine. Any advice?

I've never heard that before. Could be a bad string. Try replacing it with a new one. If that doesn't do it, put a tissue under the string in the nut slot and try again. See if a tighter slot will change it.

My custom 24 had sympathetic resonance in the trem springs but I don't remember it coming through the pickups as prominent as that. I folded scrap cloth and put it on the springs to dampen them.

If you fret the 1st fret does it go away? I had a guitar with a string that didn’t have a clean breakaway angle across the nut one time that sounded not exactly like yours but similar.
