No felt, as I was told, is one of the nuances of the rules of tone. Felt contributes zilch to tone, actually robs it as it is a damper. If the strap buttons are properly installed, (which they are) meaning not overly torqued and denting the body, then no felt is necessary and one less very small thing to rob tone.
Regarding strap locks. I have used schaller and they are very good.
I've had the buttons on the guitar come loose from time to time - never in danger of coming completely off, just loose. So keep an eye on that as well.
I've never had a problem with Schallers. I have one guitar that has Dunlop strap locks and it's had a couple of near misses. I use a DiMarzio clip strap on my McCarty and it's solid as well.
