I built the first redwood lace burl from wood I supplied back in the good ol’ days. Back then, there were much fewer choices of wood types offered in the vault. Redwood sounded great. But, I’m admittedly, not the best guy to judge as my hearing is limited after years of abuse. Redwood is MUCH softer than maple, so it has to have tonal (softer) differences. That said, it wouldn’t stop me from using it if that’s what I wanted. I’d just match the pickups, which I feel is a bigger factor.
