Has anybody tried KT66s in an Archon 50 or 100? I'm thinking of picking up an Archon 50 and I've always wanted a KT66-based amp, so the prospect of killing two birds with one stone is attractive...

I've emailed PRS Customer Service about this. It seems like it should be possible from a tube operation perspective (KT66s have voltage needs similar to 6L6s and require less heater current than EL34s), but it's not clear to me if the power tube sockets are far enough apart to accommodate the bulkier glass envelopes of KT66s.

I just got a response on this:

"You can try KT 66 tubes in your Archon 50 amp, they should fit. You can also try extending the bias to 40 +/- 5 ."

I did in fact purchase an Archon 50 over the weekend, so I will have to try this at some point.

Wait, KT66? They explicitly warned me off of KT66 tubes -- they did say KT77 were alright, though, and could be biased up to 40mV.

EDIT: They got back to me, KT66 are fine, it was the KT77 that weren't.
