Too close to the casinos in CT.........
I have flipped literally a ton of guitars over the years and have spent way way too much time perusing the for sale sections of the forums and Craigslist. Some I bought and most I have traded or sold/bought to acquire so I am not out an ungodly amount of cash. But something weird is happening to me and I think I might be close to being satisfied with my small collection.

I got in a couple nice guitars recently, have one at the PTC getting a refret and setup, and have one more really special guitar that will be incoming soon and I feel really odd. I mean I look at guitars and say wow but I am not feeling like I am missing anything and HAVE to have it.

Also I am down to only one double cut PRS, and that is the long neglected project CE that I need to finish someday. Counting the LP Custom I just got and the PRS incoming I now have five short scale single cuts.

What is wrong with me?!?! :iamconfused:

Anyone else ever revamp your collection and feel better for it?

I can't relate to your situation. I only have 5 prs guitars which is small compared to some collections l've seen on here but I really like all 5. One thing I always do after buying a prs guitar is start looking for the next one. It's a sickness for sure.

Cutting back you say?
I am adding one more to my herd for a total of nine :D
I must find room on my wall for just one more hanger...
And I still want a PRS SC25 or Tremonti (both stoptail) down the road.

I thought I was there but then I wound up buying a 30th Anniversary Custom 24. So maybe that will be the last one.
I don't really feel like I need any more guitars, which is a huge departure from the usual GAS I have been accustomed to for a long time. But perhaps that all this is because I now have four times as many guitars as I have ever had in my life.

For me, a big part of the cure for GAS (guitar aquisition syndrome) is a fundamental change my my approach to buying more guitars.
Instead of buying a lot of cheap guitars, I began buying the best guitars I could get my hands on and all but one of them were brand new.

The idea is "buy the right guitar the first time". In the long run, it is a lot cheaper to buy the more expensive guitar up front and keep it than it is to buy a whole lot of cheap guitars and then keep trading them back in toward different cheap guitars over and over (taking a loss each time you make a transaction). I have literally lost many thousands of dollars over the years doing that very thing. I wish I would have learned that concept thousands of dollars ago and spared myself the loss of money.

In a way, rotating through a bunch of cheap guitars can help you figure out what you like and don't like but at some point you have to adopt a "money is no object" attitude and buy the right guitar, regardless of what it costs. Buying one $3200.00 guitar which is perfectly suited to you up front is a lot cheaper than flipping through twentyfive $500.00 guitars which are almost perfect but have something about them that you really don't like.

I am in the midst of a revamp right now and it actually feels pretty good.

I'm down to 3 core models and I could see myself trading 2 for 1, but that one would probably have to be a PS to meet all the desires I've discoverd in the process of owning all the guitars I have owned. Experience always gets me though.

I sold both of my very sweet core models to get into The Hammer; it worked out to be a good call, the guitar is phenomenal.

Now I have a 30th PS coming (I've heard clips of the one that's coming so I know what to expect), and I'll have two incredible electrics to go with the maple Tonare Grand.

I'm in no rush to make another move, as my studio always needs updating and equipment needs replacement periodically, so I have to concentrate my resources on that.

I'm down to 4. (though there's a fifth guitar (not a PRS) that was put in its case in the closet many months ago - no plans to break it out at any point. I don't really count that one.) Three of those four are keepers. It's the 4th one I struggle with and would like to replace at some point, hopefully with a S2.

:spitcoffee: I love how we're all like alcoholics trying to explain how we only had 2 beers, neglecting the 6 shots we had at another bar a few hours ago. I only mentioned core PRSi because the SE's, and the strat in the closet don't count.

I sold all my "regular" PRSi's including an Emerald Cu24 for special stuff. I don't like everyday things and never shoot for the bottom.

I'm down to 9 PRSi from a high of 17. I'm thinking I may list 3 or 4 more. I've sold some spectacular guitars, but I honestly haven't really missed them yet.

For now, I've resolved to keep only six electric guitars. I already have five keepers. I figured I should spend more time enjoying the ones I have rather than lusting after what I don't have.

:dontknow:
In all seriousness, I'm sorta there. I'm really kinda waiting for right opportunity to put in my PS order and get it right. I honestly can probably only do one PS in the long term so I don't want to mess it up.

I think mine has been a valuable journey. I've started with the cheap ones but quickly made the jump to high end PRSi (2 new and the rest used). I bypassed the midrange stuff (including amps). That ended up saving me a lot. I could sell what I have now at going used prices and get a few thousand more than I have in the whole bunch.

What I have now is about all I'll want. I'll probably lose an amp or two and maybe a couple guitars as well, but only if I decide I want the money more than the guitars. For now I like keeping all of them. I still look at the ads, but I'm seldom tempted to buy.

Re-reading this thread, I realized that I am a serial guitar collector.

I'm working on becoming a guy who can actually hang onto what he has! :top:

I'm sure that won't stop me from being more acquisitive down the road, though...

I am with you guys. I think I have been in and out of 70+ guitars in the last 10-11 years. I am down to 6, but may have enough spece on the wall for one more hanger, and 3 amps.

How weird is it that they are all PRS's?

1. Larry lurie's 513
2. Paul's guitar with 408's
3. A Custom 22 that just sounded great (with Dragon II pups)
4. Larry Urie's Tonare Grand
5. Zack Brown built Angelus (BRW and ADY)
6. Tunnel 13 PS

NOt sure I can deal with much more. All of these just sound amazing!!!
