Read the book. You might be surprised.Been saying the same thing for years, and posted a black and white pic of that very guitar on the forum.
Leo Fender and Paul Bigsby were friends; my guess is that Paul had no objections to Fender's use of the design. If he did, he didn't make a stink about it.
What's also interesting, given that the guitar predated both the Fender stuff AND the Les Paul is the body shape. It's very Les Paul-ish.
