Coil Split -- Inner or Outer?

For the McCarty, S2 instruments, etc., when the tone knob is pulled up to engage the coil split, is it the inner or outer coil of the pickup that is being heard?

Screw is active.

S2 and Core from the last several years also employ resistors that allow a small amount of slug to be heard also. SE might even have the resistor wiring nowadays.


Anything with 408 or multi-tap pickups taps to slug.
