I'm looking at an alder ce22 from 2008.

How long did they do an alder run during that time?

Alder only was only in 2008. The earlier years had a maple top

Well, technically, the first CE's were alder until about 91. Then they went to mahogany and maple. The 2008 must be a special run. Still a great guitar to check out. I love my Alder CE.

Mahogany started in late 94. The “CE maple top” still had alder backs until then.

The Alder CE was a production model for that year and not a special edition. That said, I don't think too many were made, as they only lasted a year and you don't see that many 2008 model Alder CE's in the wild.

I had a cu22 with D2s so that's my experience with those pickups.

Back around 98 I built a partscaster that was a carved top double cut similar to a Santana. Had an alder back with quilted maple top and solid rosewood neck. It's a surprisingly good combination.
