I have to be able to bend a step or step and a half anywhere and not have the string choke. So I don't try very hard for low action.

That said, just in the last two weeks (after ~30 years of playing!) I have finally made friends with adjusting my own truss rod. I'm finding that makes a huge difference between a guitar that feels stiff vs. one that's nice and comfy.

I generally set mine close to the factory spec. Used to set mine a little lower, but as the collection has grown, along with the time needed to maintain everything, I find that factory or a smidge higher prevents me from having to tweak so much due to seasonal conditions. Plus I tell myself I am working harder to play so I must be getting better.
