Upgraded my Standard 24 with a chisel

You are a top dude

No, my friend, YOU are the top dude.

Usually, I would pass over whatever was left, but I have a history of dinging my guitars. All dents tell the story, and not all are of my making, lol.

If he is local to Gloucestershire, I'm happy to arrange meeting too

Looks good. If you had a plug cutter or dowel cutter you could have cut the plugs from face grain and maybe hidden them better in the face grain of the peghead. But it looks good. Most people would have done it the way you did.

True, but I'm super happy with Howard's crayons. Simple yet effective. I can't wait to see how it will look with the touch-up pens

Side note - if you don't like Phase III's for whatever reason - the hole pattern is same as SD90 Kluson style

Wait - does that mean I can swap the tuners on my early 2000 McCartys with Phase IIIs, no mods required? Is the hole for the shaft the same size?

I'm unsure about the shaft, but the holes may be similar.

Buy this https://g-gotoh.com/product/card-33/?lang=en

If it fits under your present tuners and the holes will align, the phase 3s will work, too
