"The 624" Demos

I got a chance to record a bit of audio today. Direct in Mesa Mark V -> SM57 -> PC (dry).

First up, lots of gain (as requested). I'm not much of a metal player and don't really know what to go for here. Could be a little tighter in the bottom end (did I just say that?)...

Second up, a bit of funk influenced clean stuff, going through the main pickup options. Which are:

Neck HB then split, Neck/Middle HB then split, Neck/Bridge HB then split, Middle/Bridge HB then split, Bridge HB then split, all 3 HB then split.

Sounds great.Pos 2 and 4 sounds very..excuse my french..stratty.I remember now you said it had a 3 way switch and push/pull.What is the middle position of the 3 way without activating middle pickup?...Ok now i get it ...gettin slower with age...anyway...great sounding guitar.

Wow thanks for all the nice comments guys! I got a chance to do a little more today, again lots of gain but this time a quick blues type lick. Trying to demonstrate how even with lots of gain, there's clarity, as well as tonal variety, even going from HB to single coil.

Same as before: Neck HB then split, Neck/Middle HB then split, Neck/Bridge HB then split, Middle/Bridge HB then split, Bridge HB then split, all 3 HB then split.

The bridge pickup rips IMO!

I tried to do more and then the baby needed to sleep... If I don't get a chance to do any more today I won't be able to touch it again for 2.5 weeks (holiday, exams etc). Still need to do some crunchy rhythm, maybe some clean ringing open chords and some mindless noodling...

The loop is slightly out of sync, it's cut and pasted (slightly less clams that way), same settings as before. I'll admit I haven't got much experience with audio software, something I intend to change over the next couple of years! Very confronting listening to yourself... "yup there's that same lick again... and again...".

I've been a huge fan of the neck/middle Strat sound, except for trying to sit way back in a mix. That combo demo on your 624, but in full humbucker is great! Quacky, but full and musical. Dig it!
