I am contemplating the purchase of a used Sonzera 20, but it does not have a footswitch. The official PRS replacement simply costs too much. Any suggestions for a generic or some brand that would work (and cost under $40)?

If I had one to take apart I could tell you, but PRS online info doesn't make it clear if you want latching or non-latching, and if it's non-latching, if you want normally open or normally closed.

If it's a latching switch (it probably is), then the Hosa FSC-385 is like $15 on ebay and perfect. You'll need a TRS cable to go with it.

Otherwise, if you're handy, you can buy an enclosure, a stereo jack, and a few different footswitch types and use trial and error to figure out what you need. I've done that before making an extension footswitch for a pedal. If you go that route, it might help to know that there's a trick to use a transistor to change a normally open switch to a normally closed switch.

If someone has one and a multimeter and wants to test it, let us know!
