SE Custom 24 vs Epi Les Paul - note bloom...

TRUE
Notes will not bloom on your SE CU24 like the LP will
Set neck build differences are one factor

So I am guessing that at the end of the day, the SE Custom 24, while a great guitar, will not get me as close to the LP sound as an Epi LP? This would seem to be the logical conclusion, given the actual technical differences between the two guitars, pickups aside...

I have an epi les paul custom pro. The pickups that come stock aren't terrible but they aren't fantastic either. I ended up putting a Gibson 498t in the bridge position which gave me that les Paul beefy tone I was looking for. It's a geat guitar but the neck is a bit too thick my small hands. It is also pretty heavy. I move around a lot on stage and the weight of a LP does not help.

fwiw.... Mrs. Bebop is a big fan of Epiphones (she buys these 'inexpensive' guitars like some women buy shoes...), usually used, so I get to fix them & set them up.
I have to say that some of them are actually -very- nice instruments. Like most Gibsons, Epi's and even SE's sometimes, it's a matter of finding a good one out of the bunch, and/or one that just works for you.

The last guitar I bought before I bought my first PRS was an Epi Casino - I was hankering for some semi-hollow or full-hollowbody, and that seemed to be the most cost-effective way to get what I (thought I) wanted. I played a variety of Gibson/Epi models at the store, and the Casino was the one that played smooth, sang to me. I gigged with it quite a few times, even after I picked up my first PRS, a CU24, because the music I was/am playing has a lot of semi-acoustic to full acoustic elements (I use an acoustic simulator to help me there too).

Once I got my PRS HB I no longer gigged with the Epi Casino, but I still play it occasionally - gets a good AC/DC tone, oddly enough, with my rig...

If you do truly need an LP - I hear great things about the Agile LP copies, many seem to think they're better than the Epi's.
