PRS Wiring Mods Resource Thread

Question about the McCarty wiring. The older version don't has resistors on the tone pot, while the newest version has.
I was wondering if they give the split-coil sound more output? I'm in the process to mod mine to 50's wiring style, so if they make a difference
I will take a look at it too.

Yes. The resistors keep more of the coil that is being grounded out in the circuit to keep the split tones louder and a little fuller. They work surprisingly well.

Hey all -- I bought a used 2023 S2 Standard 22. I'd like to switch out the stock wiring to the Core Custom 24 wiring setup. So, I ordered a PRS Custom 24 wiring harness from guitar center. It arrived today.

Problem is, the way it is wired doesn't seem to match the Custom 24 wiring diagram that's on the PRS website.

Here's a photo of the wiring harness I received:

But if you look on the PRS website, the wiring diagram for the Custom 24 looks different:

Can anybody explain where I should solder my pickup wires, input jack, and ground wires to (I'm using the stock 85/15-S pickups)? Or is there another wiring diagram out there that matches the harness I received?

Hello, I’m new to the forum and wiring mods, although I can solder well enough. Wondering if anyone would comment on what I'd like to do in these diagrams.

Does it work, is there an easier way, am I doing anything wrong? The guitar is currently configured with a PRS 2 pole, 5-way blade switch I initially wanted to use, but I couldn’t figure out the wiring. I decided to simplify with the 3-way switch. I like the idea of the middle position having control of all coil split scenarios via the push/pulls when both pickups are on.

Thanks!

Sorry if im in and other tread,,i have a Question about TCI picups as they say when i bouth it, 24/08 vintage with two mini toggles,,and i have 2019 a normal custom Se with volume and a push pull tone tree way switch,,So here is the Q,,i wanne put the TCI in the SE custom,,and how to i do that,,i cant find the right colour combo anywhere ,what kind of colour do the TCI have the picups have two different setups, one ( neck ) with four wires and the ( Bridge ) has five,,the white has a ground into it as i have understood,,sorry for my bad english but i really hope anyone can help me her🤘🏻

Is it possible that anyone can tell where they go? i have try to take contact in this forum, but noone answer?
ex,,bridge/ red go to 3way!,or mini toggle number 4 ex. then it would be easy.. i tried to solder TCI into a SE custom with one push pull tone and a 3 way switch Prs type all i can say,,that diddent work with the color code .
i get a strange sound from the middle switch and no split coil from the pPull?

Do you have a diagram of what you have already done?

I haven't dug into this but one thing that came to mind when reading your posts is that you are putting US pickups in an SE. The wire colors could be different. I see the diagram you linked is for an SE. I would look for one for a core model and see if the colors are the same.

Is TCI pucup us?
I believe they are. I am not as familiar with the SE line as the core line but I don't think they do the TCI process on the SE pickups. It is possible I could be wrong on that. I know they have an S at the end of the names for the SE line. The price you paid for the pickups would also be an indicator on that. The US pickups would sell for a lot more money.

it was in my 24/08 vintage custom a guitar made in korea,so it not that expencive, but a good guitar i have to,one SE custom and the one i wright about, and i wanne switch out the TCI with some SD and Dimarzio, that all goes to 24/08 and the TCI goes to the SE custom

Not an expert, but it sounds like a ground problem. My understanding is the TCI pickups come in 2 different wiring configurations. I was unaware that there was the possibility that both would be used on the same guitar. Essentially you have a different wiring on each pickup as you mentioned before. If that is the case, it will be necessary to use the metallic braided shield on the 4 wire configuration as your ground for that pickup and the orange wire as ground on the 5 wire pickup. Again not an expert but, I'm hoping this may help you sort it out.

i got a friend her today, ingeniør,, we figger it all out,, they where the same colors ,but one of them was reversed,,jippi PRS why do it so difficult?.. but the picups acually sound great,, but SD and Dimarzio in the 24/08 sound better😂😂😂

Hi guys,

I've got my PRS SE 245 pickups and was planning to put them back in the guitar, but when I took them out I didn't note which was which!

They are 2 wire zebras, one has a white sheath, the other yellow.

Does anyone have the knowledge as to which is neck and which is bridge please?

Thanks!

Looking for a sanity check from folks who are in the know. I'm modding a friend's Cu24 to drop in some \m/ pickups, replacing the 5-way with a 3-way lever and dropping a push/pull tone pot in for coil splitting. The result he wants is straightforward: neck/both/bridge on the lever switch and humbucker/single coil with the push/pull pot. Not too bad. I understand the wiring coming out of the \m/ pickups, and which wires from each pickup need to be paired on the push/pull for coil splitting. I've been looking at some reference docs for how to properly wire the 3-way lever, and that's where I'm getting twisted. There are two references I've found that seem to have different wiring paths though they're ostensibly doing the same thing. Wondering if someone can help me understand the difference between the two diagrams below:

Is it just the different pickups in the Holcomb? Thanks in advance for helping me learn!

Hi folks.
I joined a week or so back as I had just bought a SE Bernie Marsden from 2012. Love the guitar but the previous owner had swapped out the pickups. He did include the original 245s and the mounting hardware and I really fancy putting them back in.
Does anyone know of a wiring diagram for this guitar?
I haven't stripped it down yet but I'd like to be prepared. I've swapped out enough electrics in Strats and Teles but I dont even know where the pickups connect to.
I'm assuming pu's to volume pots to switch to common tone pot.
I do have a multimeter and a soldering iron, so what can possibly go wrong? ;-)
Thanks for any advice/ warnings.

Oh, and this is the beast:

Welcome and congrats on the “Bernie”.

Maybe @Fullmoon 1971 or @garrett could chime in re. the wiring diagram.

PS - are you in the UK?
