I have several single PRS pickups here and want to build sets for my 2005 Custom 22 (my main guitar) and as well as for my 2000 CE 22 Maple Top. I don't like the Dragon II in both guitars. It concerns these pickups:

59/09 Treble 9,2 kOhm
53/10 Treble 8,9 kOhm
57/08 Treble 8,7 kOhm
Archtop Bass 6,2 kOhm

As you see, one of the treble pickups must go on the bass position. What mix would be the best match? Just for looking - the guitars:

Aren't the 53/10's relatively bright? Might be an ok PU for the bass position with the 59.

From everything I've read about the 53/10 pickups, they were modelled on a 53 Tele that Paul loved the sound off. If he followed the receipe, then these pickups should have Alnico 3 magnets. I had the chance to tryout a Bernie with 53/10's (one of only 50 made for the UK market) sadly the owner decided not to sell it. The pickups in that certainly sounded like A3 magnets (I make pickups and favour A3 magnets in the neck position) A3 magnets have a almost p90 like quality in the neck position.

I would say match them like this =

Custom 22 =
59/09 bridge
53/10 used in neck position

CE 22 =
57/08 bridge
Archtop Bass

That would be my advice as well

I'd go this route, as well.

I would pair and I would put these in the CE
59/09 Treble 9,2 kOhm Bridge
53/10 Treble 8,9 kOhm Neck

and
I would put these in the CU22
57/08 Treble 8,7 kOhm Bridge
Archtop Bass 6,2 kOhm Neck

I would also put Freeway switches in both :)

Sounds like fun.

Sure I did what you said!

The Custom 22 as my main guitar has now the 59/09 & 53/10, which is a great combo! The 53/10 in the neck is fantastic, unbelievable! The remaining 57/08 and Archtop make the second pair in the CE22. Nice, but the Archtop is not suitable for too much gain.

Thanks to all who responded.
