I have this exact same tone issue, and my wiring appears to be the same as yours. The schematic you posted in your OP also looks like the schematic I found online YEARS AGO - I have the same .33 uF cap in mine, with no casing (just bare wires). However, I would not say my guitar sounds lifeless, I just know it changed after taking it to a tech. I am wondering if he thought a universal treble bleed cap might help? That schematic you posted with the .33 uF cap was very common back when I had my work done.

I just posted today, here... I really need aa good diagram. I am starting to see that Paul's Guitar has a 3pDT while the 408 has a 2PDT. Is that correct? I have the 2PDT switches.
