I’ve had this amp for a couple months and love it. Very versatile, but I’m a tone chaser/ tinkerer, like most of us, and I just enjoy trying different combinations to see what kind of tones I can get.
I used to own a vox ac15hw1 for many years, awesome amp, but just wanted a change. I always loved the class A type dynamics. So coming from that I was wondering about a hotter bias adjustment on the custom 20 , but haven’t seen any posts about it. So mine came set at 29mv and PRS told me 35 should be the hottest that they recommend. When I adjusted to 35mv the cleans sounded GREAT...punchier - fender blk face kinda...but, the OD sounds got close to being a little fizzy. So I played around a bit an found a good compromise at 33mv...very nice!
So has anyone else experimented with bias/tubes? I’ve been curious about dropping in some jj6L6’s. I’ve read some good descriptions about them...boomy bass, chimmy highs and good midrange. Love to hear some experiences.
