As mentioned, katalox has a very tight, fine grain and to me - as a fingerboard wood - it is identical in feel to ebony. As a solid neck wood, it is smooth to the touch and feels very slick on the palm. It does feel different to solid rosewood (as I have on a WL Custom 24 with RW neck), mainly because it is so very smooth. Personally, I love it as much as rosewood; rosewood is a more attractive wood though because of the colour and grain pattern.
