^ ...no respect for virgins.

We respected them in the morning.

Is this the origin story of Hammer Of The Gods?

No, actually that was the origin of Hamer of the gods

Thanks everyone for the great replies! Just to clarify, it's not that it doesn't speak to me or that I don't like it. It was just a surprise compared to what I have seen in pretty much every other PRS. I've seen vertical grain, but the round grain was different. Really just looking for other people's opinions.

I've always really been an acoustic guitar player and have only recently taken on electric, which means, to all those who asked "how does it play"....well it plays like an electric guitar, which is to say, extremely easily! My touch is not so sensitive yet to be able to detect differences in playability from one guitar to another of the same make and model.

I'm really just looking to hear the opinions of others on the top. I realize that you can't see the world through my eyes...I"m looking for your perspectives. Thanks again!
That's why I opened with, "I personally love tops with character like that."

I'd like to reply, but with all this talk of virgins I fear that I may break some laws, let alone forum rules. So, I'll just refrain. Needless to say, I have some ideas for my next soft core porn opus.

My best friend is a woodworker who builds sailboats in Maine that none of us can afford. He once saw a Guild X170 I had with a top like that. After he gasped, he told me that it was referred to as 3 dimensional grain. Seems there`s a lot of it in western Maine where my folks are from. I consider the top breathtaking. If I didn`t already have a whale blue, I`d tell you to send it to me if you don`t want it. And yes, every top is different and takes stain differently. That`s part of the amazing beauty of PRS guitars. So many of them are beautiful, and that includes the solid colors.

I would need a better picture to tell if I liked the look if it as unique as I think it might be I would keep it

Welcome!

Me, personally, I think I'd return it if I had that option. For a PRS, I'd PERSONALLY wish for something a little more... whatever it is I'm looking for :) there ARE non-ten-tops that to me look more like 10-tops without being ten-tops (for lack of better explanation). These usually have some kind of patches where the flame is very slight, but that's another kind of "not-ten-top".

Whatever floats your boat.

If you, after having played it for a little bit etc, find that you like it ("warts and all"), then keep it. Just be completely honest with yourself - If you feel like this guitar is not what you wanted AND you're disappointed, return it. It will find a home where it will be appreciated for what it is.

I totally get why you ask for people's opinion, even while you know that the decision is yours and yours alone. As you can see, plenty of people dig this top, so it's not like you got something that is "unacceptable" to the broad PRS public.

My Custom 24 is a 10-top, but the color was not what I'd hoped for. I knew it probably wouldn't be, because the photos on the dealer's page actually nailed the colour. I am fine with it, though. I could have gotten one in the exact right color, but that would have been more expensive (this particular one was on sale+discount). So while I AM colour/flame-shallow (looks DO matter to me :)), it's the sound and playability that is the most important. And man does it deliver on both those two parameters :) Also remember, you don't see the top while playing.

Incidentally, I think the very distinct flame that PRS is known for looks wrong on LPs for some reason :) wrong identity for that guitar, or something, haha.
