Really you lucky dog! My first concert was Van Halen in 1983

The Who was especially impressive from a destructive standpoint. They ruined every piece of equipment on stage. I remember Pete stabbing his guitar into his Sunn amp and tipping both amps over, and Keith Moon threw every drum and cymbal. I was standing about 20 feet away.
Jimi lit his Strat on fire. Two different shows; same summer; Muncie Fairgrounds.

I remember being a kid in middle school looking at the photos a saying how could Pete destroy Les Pauls, I always wanted one so badly. I also remember a quote from Pete Townsend possibly from Rolling Stone or maybe guitar player magazine... I believe he was asked about destroying such nice guitars and he replied “I don’t have a love affair with a guitar, I play the fucking thing”

what a jerk. the other week my special lady asked me who was singing ‘behind blue eyes’, and it turns out she’d never seen ‘tommy’ and had no idea what it was.

So Nine In Nails used to destroy their guitars in their shows - or appear two. They played Gibsons, but at a certain point they would stealthily switch to Epiphones that they would smash up, and that their techs would repair as best they could for the next show.

i’ve seen him knocking a wavestation around back in ‘93. pretty unconvincing, like he hadn’t backed up his presets.

Billy Howerdell said they went through 130 Les Pauls on the Downward Spiral tour. That's insane.
