Oh, it's definitely the side view of a violin peg head, no question about it. But that doesn't mean Leo invented it.

However, a similar shape was also used on the headstock of the Stauffer Martins as early as 1834. And I'll bet that it originated even farther back.

So Paul Bigsby didn't invent that shape, either!

There isn't much new about wooden guitars, except the details; they go back to late antiquity (chitarone, from which we get the word 'guitar'), and were certainly shaped similar to today's guitars by the late medieval/early Renaissance period.
