Charlie Watts.....R.I.P.

About as flashy as a pair of gym socks, but freaking rock solid. I'm not a huge Stones fan, but it's hard to imagine anyone else playing drums for them. It wouldn't have been the same.

Kind of funny when you think about it, but the two bands generally considered to be the greatest rock and roll bands of all time - the Stones and Beatles - don't really have a virtuoso player among them. Very little done that wasn't in service of the song. Don't get me wrong, technique is great, but heart and soul rule.

RIP, Charlie.

It's a shame, but as we know, all things must pass ;~(( Only got to check them out once, but it was from backstage at Alpine Valley on the Steel Wheels tour ('89, '90??). A friend got me a gig for the show to help out back stage. Got paid $100 and worked for about 10 minutes folding some canvass after show was over! They all walked by on their way to the stage about 10 ft away! Definitely an awe struck moment to see these legends so close! RIP Wattsi!!!
