A silly DGT tone question

I have a 2013 dgt, all stock. I find the tone dark in comparison to my all mahogony esp (emg pickups) . I always thought the maple cap would be brighter then an all mahogony guitar.

Btw I'm not complaining because of love the tone out of my dgt. I'd hate to restring it with 12's and put It in drop c, would be a very heavy tone IMO

It is the pickups bro. For the most part anyway. The EMG 81 in the bridge of your ESP is bright; it is hot, but certainly doesn't have the meat a DGT pickup does. If I remember correctly, the Eclipse models are also a 24 fret singlecut.....which will also contribute to a brighter neck tone regardless of the pickup. Also, keep in mind that a maple cap making a guitar brighter isn't always the case. Every guitar is a little different; some are just darker than others!

That makes perfect sense actually. Pickups are the key here. Glad I have a dgt...thank you for explaining it to me....
