Power tube options for 25W Archon combo?

Hey guys,

I wanted to swap my 25W Archon power tubes. I think mine has the 5881's (Tung sol's), and I find the tone to be a little too flat on top, and dark. I was wondering what kind of tubes I can use to replace the 5881's? I know EL34, 6l6GC, and KT77 have higher wattage ratings, so I can't use them.

If anyone could provide me with recommendations it would be very much appreciated!

It might be the GC's that are higher. Your best bet would be to fire off an email to Customer Service. They're great about rapid turn around, and good info. Although, PRS was closed last week for the Holidays. They may be a little backed up for a couple of days.

Just as an aside, different brands of 5881s have different tone.

I love the NOS Philips 6L6WGBs (military spec version of 5881s from the 80s, widely available and not horribly expensive).
