So long...it's been good to know you!

I haven't been around here much over the last couple months...I lost my eldest son about 7 weeks ago. Still really hard to talk about that.

So I've missed a lot here. So sorry to read the news in this thread. But glad for the perspective.

Always enjoyed Lew's posts.
Life can be cruel, but losing a child is beyond the pale. You have my sympathy.

Must say this is progressing a lot quicker than expexted. He was talking about seeing spring, not about not seeing winter :-(
Yes, he went from planning a guitar build in spring to suddenly taking a turn for the worse and it happened quickly. He said his vision was fading very quickly and it made it hard for him to even read here, much less reply. :(

So sorry to hear this. I hope you are celebrating all your son has been to you!!

What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime.
It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset." -
Life is not separate from death. It only looks that way.
~Crowfoot, Blackfoot warrior and orator

When you were born, you cried
and the world rejoiced.
Live your life
so that when you die,
the world cries and you rejoice.
~White Elk

May the stars carry your sadness away,
May the flowers fill your heart with beauty,
May hope forever wipe away your tears,
And, above all, may silence make you strong.
~Chief Dan George

Hold on to what is good,
Even if it's a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe,
Even if it's a tree that stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do,
Even if it's a long way from here.
Hold on to your life,
Even if it's easier to let go.
Hold on to my hand,
Even if someday I'll be gone away from you.

~Pueblo Prayer
Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.

Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people.
Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.
Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend,
even a stranger, when in a lonely place.
Show respect to all people and grovel to none.

When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living.
If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself.

Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools
and robs the spirit of its vision.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled
with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep
and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.
Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Some very wise words there! Thanks for sharing that stuff, I can see me writing 10 songs from what is said here!! Including my death song!!!

This existence of ours is as transient as autumn clouds
To watch the birth and death of beings is like looking at the movements of a dance.
A lifetime is like a flash of lightning in the sky,
Rushing by, like a torrent down a steep mountain.

Buddha

“The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough.”
Rabindranath Tagore

"When you truly embrace your human impermanence you connect with the power you have, and influence you have, over the time you have."
Steve Maraboli

When death finally comes you will welcome it like an old friend, being aware of how dreamlike and impermanent the phenomenal world really is.

Thank you for these wonderful words of wisdom…………

This stuff surrounds me right now...
One of my technicians at work has maybe 3 - 6 months left with cancer. He's only 63.
My bass player's wife just passed as a result of suffering lymphoma for years. 50 years old is way too soon. I am going to the funeral on the 16th.
We all have stories like this, and it is a crappy part of "life".

Yeah, I just lost a friend a few days ago, but she did good. She transitioned at 101 years old! She was the mother of a close friend, and her and I would talk till the wee hours of the morning on nights when I would stay over at their house after late night bar gigs that my buddy played in!! A great lady she was and she led quite a life!!! But hey, that's how the cookie crumbles ;~)) Stay strong all and live every day like it is your last, you rarely will be given notice of when that day will be!
