Smoked hardware with new wing tuning buttons....I hate them

I ended up buying the guitar and returning the next day. It came with a one-off pattern regular neck profile which didn't work for me. The buttons weren't too bad. They were relatively easy to turn. They don't look too bad in black but I would have likely swapped them anyway.
Sucks, but I think you are right about the buttons and tuners. They should be easier to operate than the small buttons and with greater accuracy. Soudwise I sincerely doubt I would hear the difference, especially in the mix, but that is what you get after 30 yrs perfecting the instrument. Something with deminishing returns.

Changing the tuners on my 594 thinline from the vintage tuners to phase 3 tuners with metal buttons definitely changed the way my guitar sound and felt unplugged but once plugged in it sounded the same. I assume the heavier tuners and buttons kept it from ringing out as much acoustically. That being said I’m sure replacing the metal buttons with any plastic or wood buttons would have a similar vibe to it when I had the vintage tuners on but maybe milder since they’d still weigh a bit more than the vintage. Again probably wouldn’t make any difference once the guitar was plugged in.
