Hey guys!

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a private stock silver sky? I mean, I suppose it most certainly would be possible, but I've never seen one so far! I'd love to see PRS work their magic with fancy stained flame maple silver sky's.

You’d have to go to the source on that. Signature models have some artist agreements in place, and only PRS can tell you what can/can’t be used. The Silver Sky is one of the more limited-to-the-artist items I’ve seen, though even the Santana can be done in PS.

Long version of “I don’t know, ask Paul.”

There ya go… two No and one I don’t know. Everything has a (k)no(w) in it!
And I'll add an "eventually" to the mix. I can't think of any significant PRS models that didn't eventually show up as a PS issue. DGT, Santana, all CUs, McCartys,, etc., and even the Mira and Starla were given the PS treatment. Thus in time, I suspect we'll see a Silver Sky PS. Again, eventually. ;)

What’s the main reason core models are priced as high as they are? The “core” model SS is like 40% less than say a core 594 or DGT.

It's the required effort + material.

My friend and luthier told me once he was laying the inlay in my guitar's fretboard: "Within 30 hrs I'm done with the whole woodwork of a Strat-type guitar. And I needed 30 hrs for your inlays only." It was off-set stripe inlays and a scorpion at 12th fret made of mother of pearl.

A Silver Sky doesn't has a top, which needs to be glued on. The whole electric sits on a pickguard. Easy build.
