Sanding the neck

I am considering sanding the neck down on my SE custom 24 got make it a bit smoother. I wonder if any of you have done this and what you all may have used to get it just right. I'm thinking 000 steel wool, or scotch brite pad. Thanks.

I actually sanded the neck of my SE Singlecut down to the wood to give it a similar feel to the Zach Myers. Overall, it was a lot of work, but I am very happy with the feel of it!

Use micromesh pads. Scott Peterson, on TGP did a tutorial on how do do exactly what you want to do...
