S2 standard 22 sounds weak.

So I just bought an S2 standard 22, new last week, and I think I may have a problem. When trying to play it, it sounds dull, and muffled. Especially when using an overdrive. I did notice that the output jack is loose around the cable, and will cut out if you move around a little, and maybe that's the cause of the whole issue. However, when you put a little bit of gain to it, it acts like a bad ground i.e. Buzzes until you touch metal parts, grainy sounding. Are there any specs I can use to check it and find out what it is for sure? The reason I ask, is I bought it on Reverb, and the shop I bought it from is about a 2 1/2 hour drive away so, I want to be sure that it's going to be worth the trip, or cheaper to just fix it myself.

Side note, I've got other guitars to check the amp and cables with, so I know they're not the problem.
