Purchased a new PRS SE HB II Piezo recently and noticed a few issues:
One is the finish on the left side of the neck where it attaches to the body just above the neck pickup...
It doesn't look like damage to me, more like the finish is flaking or peeling off. Has anyone seen anything like this before? And is this something PRS could fix under warranty? I think I saw a thread here where someone said they can’t fix finish defect without completely refinishing the guitar. Is that true?
Also, the bird inlays are not flush with the fretboard, the worst are at the 3rd and 5th frets sitting about 1/32" below the fretboard. They get a little better as you go up the fretboard, but none are absolutely flush. These photo is the inlay at the 3rd fret...
I opened a case for the inlay issue. PRS said to ship it to them for evaluation. If it weren't such a nice flamed top on this (and plays really nice too), I would consider returning it. But a lot of the tops on these are kind of plain. Here is a photo of the one I got:
Here is what a lot of them look like on Reverb:
I posted a message about the inlays here: https://forums.prsguitars.com/threads/bird-inlays-not-flush-on-hbii-se.53363/ and someone said sometimes on SE's they will just opt to replace the guitar instead of repair. I REALLY don't want to do that considering the variation in the flame tops. Especially if they just ship me one straight from the warehouse without me seeing it first.
I had the option to return it or get a partial refund, with the latter feeling like the better option. But i am on the fence about sending it to PRS for evaluation / service. Just a little worried they might opt replace it with one not as nice, instead of repair it. I've been stalking this model and color for over a year and hate the idea of going through all that again. Do either of these issues look fixable? Or has anyone had experience with service for issues like this?
Also noticed the piezo is a bit distorted on the clean setting on my amp. I saw a thread here that showed a trim pot for potentially fixing that. The piezo is not noticeably louder than the humbuckers, just not as clean as I would expect. Does that still sound like it could be fixed with a trim pot tweak?
