I've been kicking around the idea of having an ebony fingerboard installed on one (maybe 2) of my PRS. I emailed the PTC a little over a year ago as to the possibilities of getting it done. They said they could do it but, when I followed up a couple of months later, they said that they couldn't. Do you guys know of anyone that can do this work? Is there any info as to possibly when the PTC may start doing custom mods again? Thanks!

That seems logical enough. The only caveat is that they didn't make my guitar with an ebony board. I might take your first suggestion and continue to wait for PRS to get back to doing custom and mod work. They're probably the only ones that I'd trust to do it.

I would watch for a wood library run. A few of the dealers do half the guitars in ebony.

I thought about going Private Stock but I think it'll be extremely pricey or what I want. How do I get into a Wood Library run?

If it’s a cosmetic thing rather than tone or feel you could always dye it.
It's both actually. Ebony feels so much faster and more slick. Plus, the black coloring is better looking to me. I did consider dying the board but it's brown and the board edges under the finish would remain that color while the playing surface would be ebonized. I figured that would look cheap and "homemade". Good idea, though.
