Does anyone else prefer Mayer's pre-2021 rig for Dead & Company?

2021's rig just doesnt cut it for me. it has no girth, no sustain. it doesnt properly fill the sonic space. it's just not "there".

anyone else agree?

Agree. Most of the videos I saw for 2021 he was playing the Silver Sky. I noticed right away a difference - thinner, less low-end pop, often lost in the mix. The SS is a great guitar but I don't think it is the best for Dead and Company. I also wonder if, with Mayer wearing headphones, it affects the balance he is now hearing. So he may think the guitar tone is the same as before, while it is different for the audience.

I thought the JM 2021 rig got closest to the Jerry tone so far but maybe that's an agreement hidden in the comment . Jerry tone does not work for all styles of music.

Irregardless I really liked the 2021 sound of JM's SS through the Dumble even though it's a bit more than I would pay for an amp. 200k? It must be made with gold wire.
