dependant volume controlls

Can any one tell me why most 2 pickup 4 pot guitars come with the volume controls wired in a dependant configuration. its's not cheaper that way and you are not able to fully blend the pups.
Am i missing something by thinking this????

Tradition I would guess.
I find they blend well as long as neither volume is down to zero. I find the blend very workable with volumes between 3 & 10
