I just got done swapping out the V1, V2, V3 and V5 (PI) preamp tubes in my Archon, and raising the bias from the stock setting of around 28mv to 32mv. I thought it sounded good before, but it's absolutely mind-blowing now. There's more cut, clarity and aggression, with no downside that I can perceive.
The new tubes are as follows:
V1: Tung Sol
V2 and V3: Ruby AC5 HG+
V5: Sovtek LPS (balanced)
If you find your Archon to be a little dark and "indistinct," give these tweaks a try. I think you'll be pleased. \m/
