594 & CU24
Hi all, here's my situation:
The 594 in my avatar is my first and only PRS, and it's time to map out a second. I'm weighing two different gear scenarios, one of which results in PRS #2 coming sooner than later.
I'm hoping to tap into the formidable knowledge base here, particularly when it comes to older models or viable options I may be missing. Thanks in advance for reading through and helping me ponder, and sorry for the laundry list.
Ideally, I'd like a second 594 that I'd hot-rod for metal purposes (I know, sacrilege... sorry). But, this application requires a trem. Much as I'd love to, I can't venture into PS territory to solve that (managing rheumatoid arthritis ruins my gear budget, grr). Since I'm trying to make the most of my digits while they let me, I'd really like to get back into recording and lay down some heavy modern stuff. I'll want to spend periods parked in drop tunings. If the stock electronics are voiced for the task that's a bonus but not a requirement.
The 594's scale length and neck carve are perfect for my needs so far, exceedingly comfortable, and the one I was lucky enough to drag home has also made me a rosewood neck junkie. What else exists that might be reasonably close?
From the current line, the Santana remains a possibility (I'll have to play one again). I have eyes for the 24-08 as well, as long as I can avoid pattern thin. Perhaps a 509? (I've never tried one, but scale lengths over 25" start to make me anxious.)
As for past models that might work, I need schooling. What to look at next?
